Congratulations Balgowlah Heights students. In 2007 we had around 400 students complete the Premier's Reading Challenge. What a tremendous effort. Well done to all participants.

This is the seventh year of the Challenge for students in Years 5—8, the fourth year for students in Years 3—4 and the third year for students in Years K—2. The Premier's Reading Challenge is a special initiative of the Premier of NSW, presented by the NSW Department of Education and Training to foster a love of literature and to encourage children to read widely for leisure and for pleasure.

To participate, please read the rules carefully.

WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?

Your Challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to read 20 books in one year from 1st February 2008 to 1st September 2008. For Kindergarten, Years 1 and 2 the children need to experience 30 books.

For K-2, of those 30 books, at least 25, should be chosen from the Premier's Reading Challenge book list. Five of the books can be of your own choice. They should be of similar quality to those on the list. You can choose all 30 from the list. K–2 students who can read simple chapter books independently are encouraged to attempt the 3–4 Challenge.

For Years 3-6, of those 20 books, at least 15, should be chosen from the Premier's Reading Challenge book list. Five of the books can be of your own choice. They should be of similar quality to those on the list. You can choose all 20 from the list.

When you read 20 books, give your Reading Record to Mrs Souter.

The Premier will give a signed certificate to all students who meet the Challenge. If you receive certificates for four years in a row, you will receive a Gold Award for Reading.
